In Las Vegas today, more details have been announced about the Star Wars Blu-ray set. We have a month of release (September 2011), prices, some information on the sets and a tremendously well put together trailer.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Star Wars in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan:
Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)
Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will be available for $139.99 US/$179.99 CAN and the Star Wars: Trilogy Sets for $69.99 US/89.99 CAN. Pricing for each set will vary by international territory.
It seems as though they’re catering a little too much for those who dislike the prequels by offering two different sets, but that’s a minor complaint. The Ultimate 9 disc set is what everyone will want by virtue of all the special features.
Here is a link for pre-orders on Amazon, who is selling it for $50 off MSRP
In the meantime, head over to the Star Wars website and watch this trailer for the entire saga. I love seeing both trilogies intercut and interconnected, making this trailer twice as much of a treat for fans. Kudos to the editor of it… Though I did think it was a little weird that over the audio of Luke saying, “I am a Jedi, like my father before me,” they chose a shot of Anakin as he’s about to slaughter the sand people… Any way… Minor nitpick.
I’m going to go watch it again.
