The Star Wars Blu-ray’s are right around the corner and more and more information about the versions we’ll be seeing has been leaking out at a steady clip.
First, StarWars.Com has a pretty fascinating look about a lot of the really small things that will be fixed with this release.
For one, I didn’t realize that they had to crop the frames on some of the DVDs, and all of that is getting fixed. There’s also some instances of clipping with the CGI characters that is going to be fixed. (They specifically mention an instance of Fode and Beed’s hand cutting through his shirt, no mention on if they’re fixing the Bongo clipping through the Opee Sea Killer’s jaws.)
They also talk about some of the more needed fixes in the classic trilogy, from lightsaber colors to the blob of black cartoon on Palpatine’s face in Return of the Jedi.
Read their full report (with pictures and comparisons!) here.
There is also a whole bunch of HD videos from each film in the Saga put up by the official Star Wars Youtube account. (They’re all rounded up here.)
A video is also floating out there of a CGI Yoda replacing the puppet version of the character in The Phantom Menace. It’s not from the official Youtube, but looks compelling one way or the other.

For the Blu-ray release, FOX is also running a promotion where you can ask Darth Vader anything you want. Seriously. Try it out.
And the last thing on the list, and the thing I’ve wasted the most time doing, is the “Voting” feature they’ve added to the website. You get to vote on the best moments in the Star Wars saga (and watch a lot of them, too.) They have them all ranked and it’s interesting to see the pretty even split between great moments from the prequels and the classic trilogy.
You can hit that website up here. Don’t spend TOO much time there.
The Blu-rays hit stores September 16th, 2011, and you can preorder them here.
