REVIEW: ‘Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics’

Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics is a very entertaining documentary.  That is what the film is though, it is not a new DC Animated movie like the “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” or “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox” which if you haven’t seen those yet do yourself a favor and pick them up for Christmas.

On DC comics website the film is described by “exploring the thin line between right and wrong, the nature of evil and how super-villains can reflect society’s dark side as well as our own personal fears.”

The film focuses on the main big villains like The Joker, Catwoman, Lex Lutoher, Darkseid, Doomsday, Sinestro and Zod among others. There are inerviews with the writers of DC comic books, artists, filmmakers; comic experts and celebrities who have helped bring these villains and the heroes they fight to life through tv series and films.

Overall it was a very enjoyable documentary to watch and even most tame comic book fan will be entertained. I have been reading comics from a very early age and I learned things about villains that I didn’t know. It was very cool to see the evils they are representing done through comics. Its a film I will watch again and again, I have always been a sucker for special features and this documentary ranks among my top 5.

Also for the price of $12.99 for the 2-disc Blu-ray version from Amazon it’s well worth your money.
