Burn After Reading is obviously the biggest release today. And while it is by no means greater than No Country For Old Men or Millers Crossing, it’s still a solid entry in the Coen Brothers canon. And it’s pretty goddamned hilarious to boot. Definitely (defiantly?) check this one out.
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas is the next best release today. This is a film I’d like to see on Blu-ray but I’m almost tempted to tell you all to wait and see if this comes out from Criterion on Blu-ray. The Criterion edition of this film is top notch and I’d hate to trade up for a version that only has improved picture quality.
Hamlet 2 also hit shelves today, though I imagine you’d probably have a hard time finding it at most places. Releases like this rarely get shipped at any decent quality to the chain stores. And I want to warn you that this movie isn’t great, it’s simply funny. Steve Coogan will make you laugh your balls off until you need to sew them back on.
Also, Coming to America & Trading Places are coming out on Blu-ray on opposite sides of the same disc for a pretty reasonable price.
See you next week in our last installment of 2008.
