Box Office Monday

I don’t know if it is from the lack of new films, the lack of family films, word of mouth or that most of the country is icing over, but “Frozen” came out on top over the weekend. In the film’s 6th week, that is just crazy; this movie is at almost $300 million domestic and is over $340 foreign. The Hobbit (3rd) is starting to drop significantly domestically while raking in money in the foreign market ($229 million vs $527 million) and I think we can safely say Walter Mitty (7th) was a bomb. The only new movie was “Paranormal Activity: The marked Ones” and here’s hoping that is the last time we hear from that franchise.

  1. Frozen: $20.7 million, having the 3rd highest sixth weekend ever.
  2. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones: $18.2 million on a budget of $5 million.
  3. The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug: $16.25 and a 44% drop from last week.
  4. The Wolf Of Wall Street: $13.4 million and a 27% drop from last week. May hit the $100 million mark, but just barely.
  5. American Hustle: $13.2 million, not a runaway hit but a slow burn that has doubled its budget and should hit $100 million next week.
