Few novels are so good that once finished I immediately want to read them again, “The Martian” is such a novel. Originally self-published in 2011 and republished by Crown Publishing last year, the novel tells the story of astronaut Mark Watney stranded alone on Mars and his struggle to survive until help arrives.
The book was optioned by Fox and Drew Goddard (Netflix’s “Daredevil”) was tapped to write the script with Ridley Scott directing and Matt Damon starring. Weir weaves a tale full of technical science while keeping the story fresh and entertaining with Watney’s sense of humor in the face of a space travel disaster that makes Apollo 13 look like a walk in the park (except of course for it having really happened and those astronauts being gorram heroes!).
Check out the latest trailer for the film adaptation.
“The Martian” hits theaters October 2.
