When it comes to Paul Thomas Anderson (not to be confused with Paul S. Anderson of Resident Evil/Milla Jovovich fame) I run a bit hot and cold. But to be truthful, that is mostly me just being contrary. He is a fantastically talented filmmaker. His sensibility initially has been a bit mopey, and I have enough mopey in my own life just from me as it is, so I tend to not connect well with it in movies.
“Inherent Vice” looks like something wholly and completely new from him, and based on the trailer I am firmly and happily behind him. There are so many fantastic little moments in this trailer, I already imagine the movie being deliriously and wonderfully exhausting, full of quirk and dark humor.
