Representatives from Pinewood studios, where Episode 7 of the “Star Wars” franchise is being filmed, have reported that Harrison Ford suffered an injury while performing a stunt on set. The actor collided with a hydraulic metal door near the Millennium Falcon and collapsed in pain. Reports are varied as to the severity of the injury, with some claiming the 71 year old actor was clasping his chest while others indicate it was merely an ankle fracture.
A representative from the studio has insisted that Ford did not suffer any chest injuries and is recovering from the injury to his ankle. Ford was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. Production on JJ Abrams take on a galaxy far, far away have halted for the day, cast and crew were sent home. One might wonder why a helicopter is needed for an ankle injury, but when considering the patient it’s not that surprising. At this point, any conjecture on the matter is merely, exactly, that.
This does, however, bring up questions about the production, if this will have an impact on release date etc. Of course the only real concern is the safety and health of Harrison Ford. The fans can wait a few extra months for a movie, let’s just make sure Han Solo is in it.
A spokesperson for the film stated, “He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.” So it sounds like this may have no real impact to production, it seems reasonable that other things could be shot without Ford while he recovers. Though I imagine that a production of this magnitude isn’t so easy to just move around, we might be getting a little bit of spin, it remains to be seen.
Hopefully Ford will be blaster toting and back in action in no time. We wish him well.
