Box Office Report

The Marvel Cinematic Universe once again had an amazing weekend. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” beat out “Fast Five” for the best April on record with $96.2 million. It also opened about $10 million higher than the recent Thor movie but couldn’t catch any of the Iron Man films. Winter Soldier has actually already earned more than the first Cap film earned in total with a worldwide gross of $303 million. It seems people are much happier seeing Captain America in a modern setting and I think a big push from “The Avengers” is helping him out. Lets take a look at how everything else stacked up.

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: $96.2 million in a very strong opening.
  2. Noah: A massive 61% drop down to $17 million.
  3. Divergent: A 50% drop in its 3rd week down to $13 million but it has made over $100 million so far.
  4. God’s Not Dead: Down 12% to $7.7 million and $32 million total.
  5. The Grand Budapest Hotel: Performing well as it expands it still has dropped a bit in its 5th week to $6.3 million and $33.3 overall.

Next weekend sees the release of horror film “Oculus,” Dreamworks sequel “Rio 2” and the football movie “Draft Day” but I think Cap stays on top for a bit.
