Box Office Report

There were only 2 new films in wide release over the weekend, “Noah” and “Sabotage.” I was actually really curious about how well “Noah” would do as a lot of the Christian themed movies were doing well currently. While it did better than any other Aronofsky movie and out-performed any of Crowe’s openings it still was just OK at $44 million. “Sabotage” bombed big time, you can read our review here, and is just the latest in a string of bombs from Arnold Schwarzenegger coming in at just $5.3 million. I think the biggest story is that “Frozen” moved ahead of “Toy Story 3” and reached over $1 Billion and is now the 10th highest grossing all time right behind “The Dark Knight Rises.”

  1. Noah: $44 Million and middling reviews, I expect “Captain America to knock it down a few pegs next week.
  2. Divergent: Similar to the second Hunger Games a 51.5% drop down to $26.5 million. It’s just $5 million off the $100 million mark in its second week however.
  3. Muppets Most Wanted: With a 33% drop Kermit and friends got $11.3 million and are up to about $33 million total. OK but not great.
  4. Mr. Peabody & Sherman: Still in the top 5 after 4 weeks it dropped down to $9.5 million and still hasn’t hit $100 million on its $145 million budget, which doesn’t include the heavy marketing cost.
  5. God’s Not Dead: Adding almost 400 theaters the surprise of last week went down on.y 1.5% to $9.07 million.

Next weekend is nothing but “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” Everything else being released is doing so in a limited run.
