Box Office Report

There were 2 new movies in wide release and neither of them took the top spot. “Need For Speed” and “Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club” (seriously someone stop this man) both opened low. Perry took #5 with just over $8 million and actually was in just shy of 2k theaters so it could have possibly done better. It is Perry’s worst opening to date. The video game adaption starring Aaron Paul, also did poorly with $17.8 million and bad reviews and was also distanced from any mention of being a video game property. “Veronica Mars” also hit about 300 theaters (review here and contest here) but it also hit the internet so it is hard to judge the $2 million it made.So how did everything else fair?

  1. Mr. Peabody & Sherman: Holding on with $21.2 but I feel the muppets are going to steal a big chunk of its audience.
  2. 300: Rise of an Empire: A sharp 58% drop to $19.1 however I think it still makes $100 million.
  3. Need for Speed: $17.8 on a $66 million budget, before marketing expenses. Yikes.
  4. Non-Stop: With a 33% in its 3rd week it is still holding on at $10.6 million.
  5. Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club: $8.3 and I’m assuming not a whole lot more. Under $40 to end.

Next week is “Muppets Most Wanted” and the YA flick “Divergent” so the box office will rake in a whole lot more cash.
