Box Office Report

There was really no big news over the weekend. “Hitman: Agent 47” bombed. It has awful reviews, including ours, and really I have no idea why Fox even tried to do this again. “Sinister 2” also did worse than expected. It was supposed to make between $15 and $18 million and only made $10.5. “American Ultra” didn’t even make the weak Top 5. It made around $5 million, maybe it will have a second life on home release.

The top 2 remained the same, both with predictable drops. There really isn’t going to be anything big for weeks now so the box office will be pretty boring.

A quick note on budgets and dollar figures:
Films making back their budgets is a good sign, but that is just the money to film. It doesn’t include distribution and marketing. Marketing can cost as much as a film. That big Superbowl spot is spendy. So take that into account when judging a film’s success. Hitting $100 million isn’t the same as it once was.

All dollar amounts in the top 5 come from estimates based on ticket sales unless noted otherwise. Occasionally this article will be published when actual results come out, which is usually late Monday afternoon. For more about this and other ins and outs of movie tracking click here.
