For those who have been following along, we’ve decided to say hello to the internet world here at BigShinyRobot by letting you know what we carry around in our bags. When propositioned with the idea by Proletariatron (Nick) I was a little worried, generally his propositions end in a child crying, or in me crying, but figured I’d follow along this time and hope nothing innocent is demolished through his ideas. So this week, brace yourselves internet, you are going to be subjected to the bag of Zombietron.
The bag featured above is one of three bags that I carry, this is my day-to-day bag. This Sony bag is armed with the essential things to keep me sane and get work done. This Playstation 3 bag was given to me as a parting gift from a colleague at my last job. It’s not as big as Nick’s and definitely doesn’t have as many pockets so here is what I stack on top of each other. On the bottom you’ll notice my 13″ MacBook Pro. Being someone who hated the iSheep methodology I turned against everything I knew to be sacred 2 years ago and purchased what is now an extension of my body. Whether I’m mixing the Podcast, writing an article, or sending hate mail, this is what gets it done. I have a Windows 7 partition for days that I need Sony Vegas, or want to play something on Steam, because let’s face it folks, Steam for Mac still isn’t up to par, at all.
Next is my Archer mouse pad, it’s simply a mouse pad that Kiley from our podcast gave us, I needed a mouse pad and into the bag it went. My car keys, well… I need my car to get around therefore the keys to my apartment, car, place of work, and 2 gig thumb drive shaped like a key ride along inside the bag. Next is my DSi with Acekard 2i to keep my gaming habits at bay while waiting for an appointment, or eating, or class, or simply when i feel like ignoring the world. The AceKard is loaded with every game I can ever imagine wanting to play, and is updated monthly with new releases.
To the left of the DSi are my phones, my iPhone and a back up phone for when either the iPhone dies, or I tire of iOS. Today’s backup is the HTC Aria, I haven’t taken any time to root it, so it’s simply running the stock Android 2.1 OS. To go along with the phones I carry a pair of Siege Audio’s Stealth HeadPhones, I should have put them in the picture but I was listening to tunes while I took the photo.
To the right of the bag you’ll see my reason for being, totaling 3 terabytes you have my back-up and media storage drives. The black short guy on the left is a Western Digital MyBook formatted NTSF for backing up and storing all of my Windows based applications as well as my 300 gigs of music and 300 gigs of movies. The silver and black gent is the new addition to the bag, a Samsung 5400 RPM 2TB drive inside of an Acomdata enclosure, formatted HFS+ and sporting firewire and USB this backs up the Mrs. MacBook, My Macbook, and then houses all of my Mac applications and a second back up of my music and movies in case something should happen to the Western Digital. The slew of cables you see coincide with my device pile, extra cable for my iPhone, USB cable for back up phone, and of course power and connections for the hard drives.
The final piece of my bag is a turkey sandwich. I generally start my day around 9 a.m and don’t return home until later at night, some days fast food does the trick and other days a turkey sandwich and a rockstar do it better. Whenever possible, I find myself armed with a turkey sandwich and enough change to grab an energy drink, (Rockstar’s aren’t always my preference, but they’ve been doing well lately).
So there you have it internet, a boring diatribe on what makes an audio/tech nerd tick, sadly I keep music on my Phone now and leave my Zune in the car, if only record players were portable….
