After Thanksgiving dinner, when the fridge overfloweth with leftovers, I like to make what I’ve dubbed “The Food Pile.” It consists of piling layers of leftovers—some sweet, some savory—upon a plate and eating the whole thing.
It’s delicious.
Perhaps this proclivity towards fitting as much possible goodness in one place for easy consumption is what’s making me excited for this bit of news from superherohype.com. In what seems like the result of a fevered dream-state fueled by a mixture of coffee, Ecto Cooler, and Energon, IDW has announced a comic book project that will throw The X-Files, Ghostbusters, The Crow, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Transformers into one giant milkshake of awesome. Slated to begin in January of 2014, it looks as if the series will begin in X-Files territory with the Lone Gunmen who subsequently investigate the rumors surrounding all of the different titles.
There’s a lot of potential here. Will The Crow and TMNT discuss their taste in music? Will the fearless leader of the Autobots have an awkward encounter with a specter that results in the nickname Optimus Slimed? And what about the bizarre conversations that could possibly take place between Ray Stantz and Fox Mulder while Peter Venkman flirts with Dana Scully? Holy shit! Dana Scully? Dana Barrett? Think of the jokes that could revolve around Venkman’s obsession with women named Dana!
Keep checking back for news about this upcoming series. Perhaps it will be the milestone that paves the way for that Star Wars/Marvel crossover that Patton Oswalt dreamed up on Parks and Recreation.
