Members of the cast for the upcoming DC live action film “Suicide Squad” assembled at the MTV Movie Awards to debut a new trailer. Coming in at just over two and a half minutes, it gives us a better taste of the chemistry between members of the team.
I love the juxtaposition of the film’s content against the upbeat musical choices. Along with the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer, it foreshadows a movie that, while dealing with heavy violence, will maintain its sense of humor. Recent complaints have centered around the apparent sexualization of Harley Quinn, there is a bit of that in this trailer as well. While sexual content and sexually liberated characters are not inherently bad, whether or not there is a justifiable character reason or simply unmitigated eye candy remains to be seen.
Potential missteps aside, each taste of the film increases my feelings that it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
“Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer, is scheduled to hit theaters August 5.
