On its opening weekend in the US Kick-Ass made $19.8 Million and took second place for the weekend. It came in behind How To Train Your Dragon (which came out 4 weeks ago) but placed above Date Night and Death At A Funeral. All in all pretty good considering that Rated R superhero movies don’t often do well. We robots have been saying from the start that this movie is going to make it on word of mouth so make sure you go out and get people to see this movie. And if you need some reasons why read this article from Steve Zeitchik at the LA Times. He gives a lot of good reasons as to why this movie didn’t have a great opening we would like to see but that its still doing strong. If you’ve listened to the most recent podcast I tried to make some points about marketing etc but I was no where near as coherent and articulate as Mr. Zeitchik. So give it a read and tell your friends to see the damn movie.
UPDATE: Kick-Ass actually took the #1 spot. $19.8 Million compared to Dragons $19.6 (source)
