It always sucks when one of your heroes passes away. Today is one of those sucky days. Dave Stevens, creator of the Rocketeer, died today of leukemia at the age of 52. Super-sucky indeed.

I can still remember picking up Mike Grell’s “Starslayer” comic from PC Comics. “PC? There are cool books coming out from companies other that DC and Marvel?” My young mind was still trying to wrap around that concept when I got a glimpse of the backup story. The Rocketeer was different. The art was a throw-back that grew on me instantly. I loved it. I still put the 1991 movie adaptation right up there as one of my all-time favorite “comic movies.” I might just fire it up tonight and think some good thoughts for Mr. Stevens. Thanks Dave.
