Batman Graphic Novel Countdown 15 and counting

I read the first part of “No Man’s Land” today, and also the lead up “The Road to No Man’s Land” This is one of the best idea’s that DC has ever had.

After a plague, and then a cataclysmic earthquake, America is sick of putting it’s money into rebuilding Gotham, so they destroy the bridges leading in to Gotham, declare a no fly zone and try to forget about it.

The Road to No Man’s Land, is both cool and lame at the same time. Bruce goes to D.C. and tries to get them to put funds into saving Gotham. What’s cool, is when it doesn’t work and they blow up the Gotham bridge at the end. (They also fill the water surrounding Gotham with mines.)

To describe No Man’s Land in one word, I would have to use “rad.” It begins with Barbara Gordon showing you a map of Gotham that’s shaded in different colors representing different gangs controlling different sectors. From there it goes to the different gangs fighting for survival and territory and every gang left in Gotham marks their territory with graffiti tags. The coolest stuff is with the remaining Cops from the Gotham City PD, led by commissioner Gordon. Instead of fighting gangs head on, they sneak into their territories and tag it with opposing gang signs, violence ensues, the GCPD picks up the pieces.

Since he went to Washington, Batman doesn’t really show up in Gotham until a bit later, but immediately after getting there, he decides to take out Scarface’s gang, violence ensues, and then he picks up the pieces.

It’s a darn good book.

There are also a ton of short stories in here that are really cool. Things like kids stealing other kids food, and cops telling thieves that, since there is no law, they will have to chop off their hands.

The book is full of stuff like that.

I recommend checking it out.
