ADVANCE REVIEW: Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #1

I’m gonna try my best to be as spoiler free as possible, however there may be mild spoilers so read at your own risk!

With the popularity of Blackest Night and the movie on the horizon it was only a matter of time before we got a third Green Lantern ongoing. Guy Gardner and newly deputized Green Lantern, Ganthet, take center stage in this book. This book picks up the threads left dangling from the last few pages of Green Lantern #53 in which we see that Ganthet and Guy had made some sort of deal with Atrocitus, leader of the red lanterns. While this book doesn’t answer what that deal is completely, we do start to see that it is something that the Guardians won’t be pleased with. Ganthet also finds something the rogue guardian Scar left behind during the Blackest Night that has prophecies of things to come. And we get to see Guy be the kick ass space cop that he is, taking down a group of thieves that have stolen weapons grade material.

The creative team on this book is pretty stellar. Pete Tomasi is no stranger to writing in the Green Lantern universe, having written Green Lantern Corps for over 2 years. This issue hits the ground running and is a good start to I feel will be an action packed space epic! Meanwhile over on the art side of things Fernando Pasarin knocks this one out of the park. From the space battle with Guy to the blood pools on Ysmault his pencils really fit the tone of the book!

All in all I really enjoyed the hell out of this book. If you like straight up fun Green Lantern action then you should pick this up from your local comic book shop this Wednesday, August 10th when it is released. When you do pick it up go talk about it on the forums and tell me if you agree or disagree with me!
