Additions to the Nerdorium

Welcome to the January edition of Additions to the Nerdorium. As you can imagine, I got a lot of pretty awesome stuff over the holiday break. This month I will be talking about two Hot Toys I picked up.

Captain America

Hot Toys: Captain America
$169.99 sideshowtoy.com

I’ve been super excited to get this bad boy. I loved the movie and couldn’t wait to add this guy to my Hot Toys shelf.

Captain America Large

PROS
• The likeness to Chris Evans is uncanny.
• Wonderful accessories: a pistol, machine gun, extra leather strap with pockets, and of course Cap’s shield.
• His suit is recreated perfectly. I can’t give enough praise to how awesome this doll looks.

CONS
• The only con I can think of is his shield. It looks awesome, but it’s some form of plastic. I was really hoping it would be metal.

Superman

Hot Toys: Christopher Reeve’s Superman
$209.99 sideshowtoy.com

While recently a lot of other companies have picked up the likeness rights of Christopher Reeve, the Hot Toys is the definitive version. The detail goes down to every pore. The particular version I purchased comes with some Kryptonite, just incase he gets out of hand.

Superman Large

PROS
• The articulation of this doll goes a notch above the rest: even the cape has articulation built in.
• It doesn’t get much better than this. Especially with the crystal base from the Fortress of Solitude.
• Lots of extra hands and a base with a transparent pole to make Superman look like he’s actually flying.

CONS
• From certain angles where the costume meets his hands can look a little funky. I realize how petty this sounds.

Between the two, I think Captain America is my pick. As awesome as the the Christopher Reeve Superman is, I’ve never been a huge Superman fan. Next month I will be covering a bunch of figures I got for the Holiday, including Vigo, the Scourge of Carpathia.
