Silence in the Library (who published my last novel, Operation: Montauk, and my next book, A Children’s Illustrated History of Presidential Assassination) has a new collection coming out, and I think you’d do well to check it out and support it.
Athena’s Daughters is a collection of science fiction and fantasy stories with female leads, written by a collection of fantastic writers who all happen to be female. I think it’s a great idea and worthy of support, and the names they have involved make me want to read all of these stories anyway. From Janine Spendlove and Gail Z. Martin to Cleolinda Jones and Jean Rabe, it’s chock full of writers whose work I’ve read and liked. And the introduction is written by an astronaut.
Each story will also be illustrated by an artist, and the art they have posted on the page is pretty cool.
How can you go wrong?
The Kickstarter is already actually funded, so they’re working on stretch goals now, and there’s some great ones in there. Particularly the $24,000 level:
$24,000 – We will produce a companion volume to Athena’s Daughters titled Apollo’s Daughters. This anthology will feature stories by some of the best male science fiction and fantasy authors in the business. These stories will also feature female protagonists. Authors like Michael A. Stackpole, Aaron Allston, Aaron Rosenberg, David Mack, and Bryan Young have already signed on for the project.
Yes: I have something to gain here. I’ll be editing that second anthology and I’d love to see it happen.
So, head over to Kickstarter and check it out. For $5 you get the eBook version, and a slew of other eBooks from the authors besides.
