Heroines Front and Center in New Star Wars Comics

After a successful summer debut, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is getting its own comic series. Much like the animated shorts, the comics will focus on the female leads of the Star Wars franchise and will tell new stories featuring Leia, Rey, Padmé, Ahsoka, and Hera. The comics will also include Rose and her sister Paige, two Resistance characters to be introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

With a skilled team of women artists and writers leading the charge, I couldn’t be more excited. Writers Delilah S. Dawson (PHASMA, Adventure Time comics), Beth Revis (Across The Universe trilogy), Jody Houser (Orphan Black comics, Avengers: No More Bullying), and Devin Grayson (Gotham Knights, The Titans) are joining forces with artists Arianna Florean (Doctor Who: New Adventures, Star Trek: Boldly Go), Valentina Pinto (My Little Pony, Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880), Nicoletta Baldari (Funko Universe, Hana Zuki) for the five-issue series.

“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity.” – Kathleen Kennedy

Elsa Charretier (Marvel’s Unstoppable Wasp, DC’s Harley Quinn) is a writer and illustrator for Star Wars Adventures:Forces of Destiny. Charretier will also be creating five variant covers, which interconnect to form an iconic Forces of Destiny image. Annie Wu (Hawkeye, The Venture Bros) is drawing a super-rare variant.

In a statement from the publisher, IDW senior editor Denton J. Tipton “The Forces of Destiny initiative has won over fans with its inspiring tales about these iconic heroes,” IDW senior editor  said in a press release. “IDW Publishing couldn’t be more excited to be part of the celebration of these beloved characters.”

Padmé’s flying lesson with Ahsoka is unexpectedly interrupted in the most recent episode of Forces of Destiny.

If you’re craving more of Ahsoka’s adventures with Padmé or Rey’s tech-savvy solutions and can’t wait until January, four new episodes of Forces of Destiny will be available on October 29. You can watch every episode to date here.
