REVIEW: Sleepy Hollow 1.8 “Necromancer”

Arse-bot is off doing stuff in NYC this week so you’re stuck with me! Suckers!

This weeks episode picked up directly after last weeks ended. Irving, Mills, and Crane had captured ol Headless in the demon prison designed by Thomas Jefferson. They have him chained up with UV lights pointed on him because the sun weakens him. I was thinking ok so somehow he’s going to break free otherwise what’s the point. Welp I was wrong.

Most of the hour was spent learning about the headsman. Mills and Crane track down Officer Neckskin Brooks and get him to become the Horseman’s puppet so that they can interrogate and discover the motivations or mission that keeps bringing Headless after Crane.

I think the interrogation section was the strongest of the episode. John Cho is creepy as can be with blacked over shark eyes and giving the Horseman a voice somehow made him more intimidating. We also learned all about the Horseman and why he constantly goes after Crane. We had some great flashbacks showing us why Crane eschewed the trappings of wealth, why his wife is so important and that the Horseman is actually out for revenge!

You see Ichabod “stole” his buddy Abraham’s girl…even though she didn’t love him and wanted to not be forced to marry for society standing. Abraham got pissed and fought with Crane and while fighting they were ambushed by some Hessians and Abraham was fatally injured. Abraham then sold his soul to the devil in order to get revenge on Ichabod who really didn’t do anything wrong. The Hessians shaved his head, tattooed it, gave him a cute little creepster mask and he somehow grew like 2 feet in size becoming the Horseman. That’s right folks, the Horseman is Ichabod’s former BFF and he is pissed.

I thought that giving the Horseman an identity may kind of kill the fun but it actually made it interesting to see that basically this guy is crazy and won’t stop coming for Crane. It also gave us some insight into why Cranes WitchWife is so involved in the plot and how important she is. She is the Horseman’s prize once he kills Crane.

Irving and the other Mills also had an interesting subplot involving them hunting down some Hessians but I wasn’t super involved in that. I love those characters but I dont care what rank Irviing is, nobody is letting a chick fresh form the mental ward suit up with the tactical team…yes that’s where I draw my line in belief suspension. The Hessians succeed in blowing up part of the power plant and the Horseman uses Officer Neckskin to release Moloch’s demons and escape. Sewer fights with demons! and another abrupt ending. My biggest problem with this show is the ending is always abrupt and solved insanely easily, last night was no different. I continue to enjoy this show but they need to work on the last act a bit.
