Vote For When FanX 2015 Should Take Place

Hot off the heels of a very successful Salt Lake Comic Con, Dan Farr Productions announced their plans to have a FanX 2015. There’s just one problem.

Timing.

The Salt Palace is an incredibly popular venue, and weekends are generally booked pretty far into advance. Due to this, there are only two weekends available in the winter and spring, and both have some pretty big pros and cons attached to them.

First would be January 29-31 which just so happens to coincide with Utah’s other biggest event — Sundance. As they state on the web site, this could definitely attract some bigger name celebrities and would allow out of state attendees a great chance to enjoy our amazing skiing, but it could also easily be overshadowed by Sundance. Does FanX really want to go toe-to-toe with one of the world’s biggest film festivals to see who comes out on top?

The other choice is April 2-4 which seems better at first glance except for two very important reasons — the LDS General Conference and Easter. Downtown will already be extremely busy and crowded due to Conference, and while that may not make a difference to people from outside Utah, attendance could be hampered since so many here in Utah are LDS and will either be attending or watching Conference from home with their families.

Of course, the final option would be just to forgo FanX entirely and put extra effort and focus into making Salt Lake Comic Con 2015 the best one yet.

So what do you all think? Salt Lake Comic Con has set up a poll on their web site to get input from all of us as to which weekend works best. To vote, follow this link and chime in. You can also share your input in the comments section below the poll and also on their Facebook page.
