The Wizeguy: An Interview with D.M.C

Hip hop and comic books. And, video games. These were the three constants of my adolescence. I can recall THREE life changing events during this time. Marvel Comics G.I. Joe issue 18, Don Bluth’s masterpiece Dragon’s Lair & Run-D.M.C’s Raising Hell. You see, besides the Spider-man, Batman, and X-men books that I was reading at that time, nothing spoke to me like Hip Hop culture.

I live and breathe it. It forms the background track to my life story – every stage of my life can be linked to this album or that EP or a particular artist or sub-genre movement. I know many of you feel the same way. The emcees of the eighties, these were our superheroes… Chuck D, KRS-One, Guru, L.L. Cool J, etc and the dynamic duo of Run-D.M.C. They changed the landscape of music and provided myself with a profound trajectory … If you don’t know the rules of music, you can break them.

Run-D.M.C. Not only brought Hip Hop into the mainstream they were expanding the definitions of music without even realizing it. I got a chance to speak to the legend living, D.M.C. At the Denver Comic-Con this past weekend about his comic book of the same name.

Check the entire Interview at the link here.

If you have any doubts on why this guy is on my Hip-Hop ‘Rushmore’ … He got my attention when we left the interview room, spit this impromptu, one take … D.M.C. is the epitome of cool.

Be sure to check out the official site of D.M.C.
