‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Trailer and Premiere Date

Yesterday the new trailer for “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” dropped. I’ve watched it about a dozen times, including once pretty much frame-by-frame. Here you go:

Most important things first: the premiere is Thursday, January 21st. Which is good, because that gives me:

Monday – “Supergirl”

Tuesday – “The Flash”

Wednesday – “Arrow”

Thursday – “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”

For a DC Comics fan, this is truly a Golden Age. And sure, “Supergirl” is on CBS, but I’m confident they’ll find a way to connect them all eventually.

There were a few surprises for me, considering that I’ve read everything I’ve found on the series. The first is that it looks like Hawkman is going to be a regular on the series. We always knew that Hawkgirl would be part of the crew, but from the trailer, it looks like he’s going to be a more permanent part of the team. Which is cool. We get some glimpses of Firestorm’s new costume, much more in line with his comic book red-and-gold appearance. We also see new logos for the characters, which is nice for White Canary, Captain Cold, and Heat Wave, who have never had logos. Go team.

Rip Hunter’s Time Ship is shown several times in the trailer, both inside and out. In the comics, he had a Time Sphere, which we saw at the end of the first season of “The Flash.” Cramming nine heroes into one of those would have been amusing, but the Time Ship makes more sense. And it’s cool. It will be interesting to see how much that plays into the series.

Most important, we get more of the premise of the series, with the heroes (and villains, I guess) traveling through time to stop Vandal Savage from conquering the entire planet. We’ll get time paradoxes and world wars and guest heroes and villains, and Vandal Savage himself looks pretty much like every comic book version I’ve seen of him. He’s a legendary villain in his own right, alongside Lex Luthor, Joker, or Darkseid, but has been relatively unknown. Pretty sure all that’s going to change.

There aren’t new episodes of “The Flash” or “Arrow” this week, but be sure to tune in next week for the big crossover episodes of both shows that will be introducing Hawkgirl, Hawkman, and Vandal Savage. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer.

I can’t stop smiling.
