The Sci Fi Channel gets a New Name

That’s right, dip shits. For all of you confused by how to pronounce “Sci Fi” they have simplified the name to Syfy. It seems uncomfortably close to “stiffy”.

“We couldn’t own Sci Fi; it’s a genre,” said Bonnie Hammer, the former president of Sci Fi who became the president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and Universal Cable Productions. “But we can own Syfy.”

Another benefit of the new name is that it is not “throwing the baby away with the bath water,” she added, because it is similar enough to the Sci Fi brand to convey continuity to “the fan-boys and -girls who love the genre.”

This is so disappointing. I’ve been watching Sci Fi Channel since I was a little robot. Fond memories of spooky stories in the early morning and Army of Darkness late at night. Why are all these companies changing their logos and identities this year?

Was it really necessary to shorten it to “Mtn”?

Or how about Pepsi’s new logo that looks an awful lot like an ass crack.

So please, everyone just stop with this nonsense.
