I’m not exactly sure how or why this happened, but MARVEL has teamed up with Soleil (a French comic publisher) to release Sky Doll in English. To be honest, I didn’t know a lot about this book until I sat down and read it last night. That’s usually my favorite kind of comic experience: being completely unaware of what something is, and thoroughly enjoying it.
It is kind of odd for MARVEL to publish this very adults only book considering their track record. For instance, making Frank Cho go back and undo some of the nudity in Shanna a few years back. When that happened, I couldn’t believe it. Really MARVEL? Frank Cho is well known for beautiful busty women. You thought taking out the naked part out would help it sell better? For those that want to see what they missed out on click here.
Sky Doll is a about a robot girl, built to serve and please. For some, as an escape from their morals without the guilt. Because sex with a robot isn’t a sin, but a good way to spend a Saturday night.
As the story progresses you realize she might have more goin’ on than hot girl robot parts. She runs away from her owner (and operator of a robot T & A car wash) and tags along with Roy and Jahu. This book has a lot of political and religious overtones. I’m not usually one for a sci-fi / fantasy book, but this one is great.
The first three books have been finished in French. The fourth is in production. Hopefully MARVEL doesn’t do something stupid and pull the plug on it before we get to finish the story in English.
