CyberNev discusses the new Terra and the prettiness of Amanda Conner’s art.

So, today was th start of a miniseries introducing an amazing new heroine! Who is actually named after an amazing old heroine! Two in fact! One was really a villian…it’s complicated.

The book, written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray and drawn by Amanda Conner, stars the third young woman to call herself Terra (well, she actually doesn’t  call herself Terra in the issue, but it’s the title of the mini, so…) Unlike her predecessor, a geomancer who betrayed the Teen Titans and screwed a 50 year old villian, or her other predecessor who might have been the same person (it was really confusing) and suffered a pointless shock death, the new Terra appears to be altruistic through and through. She could possibly even see the world in black and white, since those are the colors of her costume.

This start-up issue wasn’t groundbreaking (ha ha), but I didn’t dislike the writing either. It’s an interesting, though not very meaty, set up. We’re introduces to a few underground races and a villain and whatnot. Power Girl makes an appearance. And the revelation at the end of the issue should interest fans of the last Terra or people who didn’t like the way she died.

Terra mark III doesn’t have much of a personality thus far, other than she’s determined and shuns the spotlight. But I have a feeling more will be revealed about her personality in time.

But I’m not going to pick up next issue because of the writing, which was average. No, I will continue to read the series because of Amanda Conner’s amazing art. I absolutely love her style. It’s fun and cartooney and vibrant. Her expressions are wonderful, and she draws pretty female characters without being exploitative.

The coloring is also nice, bright and simple. So I think I’ll be returning to the series again.
