CLOBBERTRON VS. DIGITAL COMICS

A quick look at digital comic books, apps, and a web comic or two.

ScrAPPS:
Marvel released a cool J.A.R.V.I.S. app that connects your favorite social network sites. I played Tony Stark for a night while watching Iron Man 2. I had a Martini, read my twitter account and boffed some reporters. Not bad for FREE

If Tony Starks wild life isn’t your thing try to keep up with Archie Comics! They’ve had a huge year releasing a US postage stamp, Putting Archie in a (GASP!) Bi-racial relationship and introducing Riverdale’s first gay character, demanding the first re-print in Archie Comics history!

They’ve even paired President Obama and what’s her nuts on a cover drumming up huge press. Now they have yet another app highlighting the post Archie Wedding series LIFE WITH ARCHIE I’m not expecting you to download it but now you now!

And Knowing is half the battle!

…So check out the latest G.I. Joe comics from IDW they’ve been very consistent in keeping their apps loaded with new content including Transformers, True Blood and Star Trek. The True Blood books update a few days earlier in the IDW app, I don’t know why as many of the people who read it via the True Blood app paid for a subscription getting a free issue.

DARKHORSE COMICS

Darkhorse does not have a single app to get all their books in one place making it a little confusing. With so many awesome titles including STAR WARS you’d think they’d get it together and consolidate their digital titles. Until they do I’ll try to point out the best of their scattered offerings.
starwars

Most of my Star Wars pals had no idea they could read Empire, Legacy, Force Unleashed, and several more titles on their iPhone. Just search Star Wars comics and the app store will fill up with digital comic book gold!

Darkhorse has many single issue and graphic novel apps. I can’t point them all out but here are a few for Halloween.

First up for a mere 99¢ you can get the awesome Goon issue featuring Eric Powell and Mike Mignola‘s crossover Wherein Hellboy picks up an old comic book and is transported into the world of the Goon.

The second is even more awesome. The Goon Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker, Eric Powell’s beautifully crafted OGN is only $2.99 check them both out HERE.

Last up is Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s Umbrella Academy these books look beautiful on the ipad and just as good on the iphone/touch.

God Hates Astronauts
The name alone should let you know if it’s your thing or not. Ryan L. Browne’s art is so gorgeous I cant believe it took me this long to find it. The book has been going since 2009, it’s hilarious and NSFW.
