900 issues is a pretty big deal, and that is what Action Comics will be reaching in just a few short months. Over the last year Action, which has primarily featured Superman, has had a different leading character, Lex Luthor. With issue 900 we will see Superman return to the book that first gave us the Man of Steel. Over at The Source DC announced some tidbits about what we can expect in this historic issue:

Nine hundred issues is a significant milestone. Come this spring, ACTION COMICS will be the first—and only—comic book series with nine hundred issues under its belt.

Here are 6 items of breaking news about this historic anniversary issue:

1. ACTION COMICS 900 continues the epic Reign of Doomsday storyline.
2. There’s a contribution by famed SUPERMAN THE MOVIE director, Richard Donner;
3. A story by the screenwriter of THE DARK KNIGHT, David Goyer;
4. A story by the co-creator of LOST, Damon Lindelof;
5. In addition to covers by David Finch and Alex Ross, there will be a variant cover by Adam Hughes.
6. In order to squeeze in all these amazing contributions, ACTION COMICS will clock in at a whopping 96 pages.

If you notice it says that this issue continues the “Reign of Doomsday” story arc. This story started this month in the Steel one-shot, which is available now,  where we saw Doomsday return and take out Steel. The next few parts of the story, in order, are Outsiders #37 (which has the Eradicator in it), JLA #55 (in which Doomsday is searching for Cyborg Superman), Superboy(Are you starting to see a pattern here), and Action Comics #900 featuring Superman. It seems to me that Doomsday is working through the “replacement Supermen” that took Superman’s place in the “Reign of Supermen” story after he died before making his way to the one true Superman. I’m pretty excited for the rest of this story and this huge issue!
