Wear Star Wars Every Day

Lots of fans show off their love of their favorite franchise wearing clothes themed with their fandom, and Star Wars fans are no exception. Some even challenge themselves to wear their Star Wars pride every day for a period of time. But now one Star Wars fan, BSR’s own GONK, is taking that challenge to a new level: being a Force for good with a charity fundraiser Star-Wars-wear-athon called “Wear Star Wars Every Day.”

GONK, better known as Jawajames, has two simple goals for Wear Star Wars Every Day:

  • See how long he can wear a different Star Wars-themed clothing item each day, having started on January 1, 2016. He hopes to go all year without missing a day.
  • Raise $10,000 for Collateral Repair Project, a non-profit that provides assistance to urban refugees. CRP is a grassroots organization that provides emergency aid, education, and community support for refugees living in Amman, Jordan. Many of these refugees have fled the violence in Iraq and Syria, and are simply looking to have normal lives again. How do these tie together? Supporters can sign up to pledge a per-day amount. A small amount like a dime or a quarter a day adds up to a large amount if James can go all year (10 cents a day will total $36.60 by year’s end, while 25 cents a day will total $91.50). People can also support Wear Star Wars Every Day by making a fixed donation, or lending or donating Star Wars apparel items to him to wear to keep the streak going.

Here’s James explaining it all:

James is posting daily pictures, weekly videos and other updates on the Wear Star Wars Every Day Facebook page. Go check it out and like it! You can also follow the #WearStarWarsEveryDay hashtag on Twitter or just follow James (@jamesjawa).

To make a per-day pledge, simply fill out this online form. At the end of the month and completion of the project, you’ll get a reminder email to make a donation at GoFundMe.

James has a lot of Star Wars clothes in his closet but not enough to go all year on his own – maybe just a few months. So he is also looking for fans to loan or donate Star Wars shirts and other apparel items. Here’s what he has to say about that:

I am especially looking to wear cool fan-made designs or designs for Star Wars fan events or fan organizations like costume clubs, websites, podcasts, and collecting groups.

I’ll wear any article of clothing that is Star Wars-themed, cleaned, not offensive, and that I can fit into. (I wear a men’s size M or L t-shirt, and am 6-ft tall). Shirts, sweatshirts, hats, socks, ties, etc. No undergarments, swimwear, or accessories: jewelry, watches, bags, buttons, patches. I reserve the right to choose not to wear any article of clothing.

Ship via post your apparel items to:
James Floyd
PO Box 22353
San Diego, CA 92192-2353
USA

Please indicate whether your apparel item is a donation or a loan (and include shipping information if you’d like it to be returned). All clothing items will be laundered before being returned or donated. All clothing items designated for donation will either be sent as aid items to Collateral Repair Project if acceptable, or donated to a local San Diego aid organization.

James is especially looking for per-day pledges. Right now, his daily pledges are up to $3 per day – that means that every day he continues his streak of wearing a different Star Wars clothing item, he’s raised $3 from his supporters. He’d like to get that up to $20 per day, so that it’s worthwhile for fans to lend him clothing via mail.

So, go and support him. It’s the right thing to do.
