STAR WARS: ‘Rebels’ Introduces Sabine

Lucasfilm and Disney have, via The Hollywood Reporter, finally given us our first glimpse of a female character on “Star Wars: Rebels.”

The above video introduced Sabine, a Mandalorian graffiti artist and explosives expert and all around bad-ass female character. I really like the idea of the character and, like any overly crazed Star Wars fan, began thinking about who she might be really. I mean, Sabine is a character that is from Mandalore. Satine was from Mandalore and her name rhymes with Sabine. Obi-wan and Satine were maybe a thing. There’s a “b” in Obi-wan….

You see where I’m going with that, but my guess is that I’m grasping at straws. In fact, ignore everything I just wrote there.

Sabine is voiced by Tiya Sircar who is best known for her work on “Vampire Diaries.”

Here’s more from her about the character from The Hollywood Reporter:

Who is Sabine? She is a Mandalorian, and is described as “sassy,” “spunky,” “feisty” and has “a little bit of attitude.” She has an expert’s knowledge of weapons and arms, with an affinity for blowing things up. “She does it with flair,” Sircar says of Sabine, who also moonlights as a graffiti artist.

“She’s definitely one who’s turned against the Empire and that’s going to be to the Rebels’ benefit,” as executive producer Dave Filoni hints in the behind-the-scenes featurette above. As Joel Aron, CG supervisor of lighting and FX, says, “She’s adding something that we haven’t really seen before in the Star Wars universe. You have a character that is expressively creative through art — whether it’s the color of her hair or what she’s done to her armor.”

I wonder how long it will be until someone comes up with an idea for a Mandalorian “American Graffiti” crossover.

That wasn’t funny to anyone else?

Fine then.

“Star Wars: Rebels” comes out in the fall of this year.
