Timm/Dini-Influenced Batman Collectibles Coming This Fall

It’s safe to say that I have been on somewhat of a Bruce Timm/Paul Dini kick lately. I have been going back and watching their old cartoons from the 1990’s as of late and – in line with the time of year – have more or less fallen back in love with the work they have done. From “Batman: The Animated Series” to the newer DC Animated Universe films, I have been binge-watching all of it as of late, so the news of new collectibles coming later this year based on their infamous style was, to say the least, very exciting!

According to USA Today, a new collector’s line of 6-inch figures based on the styles of “Batman: The Animated Series” and “The New Adventure of Batman” will be hitting shelves this November.

The toys (priced at $24.95 each), which include a first wave of Catwoman from the earlier Batman series (1992-95) and Batman, Two-Face and Mr. Freeze from New Adventures (1997-99), will be on display this weekend at Toy Fair in New York City. -USA Today

I think I speak for fans everywhere when I say “Take my damn money!”

If you were a geek of any age in the 1990’s you watched “Batman: The Animated Series” and the many other series in the same vein to follow. For many, “Batman: TAS” was a first-taste to the Batman universe, and that was the case for me. My earliest introduction to Gotham City was with this show, and for me, Timm’s Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy is Batman. I assure you that come November I will be scouring this state for these collectibles and they will take up prime real estate in my “geek room”.

Head on over to USA Today to read some interesting bits about Timm and Dini’s influences for their character designs and how they came to be and evolved over time, it’s quite interesting. And, of course, watch for these figures to hit a toy store near you this November!

After the first couple of seasons of Batman, Timm and Dini moved on to do the Adventures of Superman cartoon, and when they returned to Batman, Timm found himself influenced by other animators working on the show.

“That inspired me to go back and redesign everybody on Batman and push it even further and make it simpler and more angular,” Timm says.
