HARRY POTTER: The Greater Good

We’ve apparently reached the point in the lifespan of Harry Potter that the fans are itching for more and aren’t satisfied with waiting for it. Two relatively well made fan films have been released in the last month. The OMEn Chronicles dropped in the middle of November and has over 600,000 views. Check it out here.

A few weeks later “The Greater Good” hit YouTube. It’s had substantially less success, sitting at just under 40,000 views but for my money, it’s the better of the two flicks. It tells the story of Dumbledore and Grindelwald that we were introduced to in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows.

The effects in The Greater Good are certainly sufficient and the acting is a couple steps up over OMEn. It may be assisted by the fact that we know what’s going on, this is a story we’re already familiar with and it’s fun to see it realized.

I spoke to Justin Zagri, the films writer/director and he had this to say, “I hope Harry Potter fans enjoy this! It was a shame we didn’t get more Grindelwald in the movies and I wanted to change that.”

To be clear, I’m glad these fan films are happening and I enjoyed The OMEn Chronicles first installment. I’m excited to see what they’ll do in the future but for my money The Greater Good is indeed the greater film. I hope they bring us more.

The internet seems to disagree. Seems everyone else is team OMEn, what do you think?

Cheers.
