RUMOR: FOX Polishing “Fantastic Four” Script, Ready to Test for Roles

It seems like the “Fantastic Four” reboot has been gestating forever, but according to Variety, Simon Kinberg (“Sherlock Holmes”, the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) has been brought in to polish up the script and FOX is rumored to be preparing to make offers to a variety of actors and actresses to test for the roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.

Variety’s sources are saying that Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) and Jack O’Connell (“Skins”) are both lined up to read for the part of Reed Richards; Saoirse Ronan (“The Host”) and Kate Mara (“House of Cards”) have both been named to possibly be testing for the part of Sue Storm. Michael B. Jordan (“Chronicle”) seems to still be the only name being thrown around for Johnny Storm and Josh Trank (“Chronicle”) is still attached to direct.

Again, these are just rumors at this point as the information is coming from unnamed sources for Variety, but I like the way this reboot could be shaping up. I can see Kit Harington as a younger Reed Richards and after watching “House of Cards” you can call me a Kate Mara fan, so go ahead an sign her up as Sue Storm as far as I am concerned. With Michael B. Jordan’s name being mentioned several times over the years as being attached to the part of Johnny Storm (plus having already worked with Trank on “Chronicle”), it seems there may be some traction there. Obviously, with the difference in skin tones, we may be seeing a Sue and Johnny Storm who are related by adoption of other means, but honestly, I think that could be an interesting twist; it wouldn’t change the fact that they are brother and sister while maybe even adding a little more dimension to their relationship.

The Fantastic Four have great big screen potential. I quite like the first (well, technically second) attempt at the movie adaptation of this super-family, but the sequel really turned me off of the series. With Josh Trank at the helm and the actors rumored to be potentially attached, I really think we could end up with a solid flick.

According to Variety, “Fox would like to get going [on production] in the first quarter of 2014.”
