Today is Harry Potter day, it seems as about 9 different versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince come out today. Be sure to click the link and go buy it at Amazon, they’ve got the Blu-ray/DVD combo of the movie right now for $14.99. I haven’t actually seen this movie since it couldn’t possibly be better than the third Harry Potter film, but I’m likely to check it out.

Lost: The Complete Fifth Season is coming out today, and this is the release I’m most excited for. I think this season was one of the best the show has had and the ending literally had me in tears. I always prefer watching it on DVD or Blu-ray since A) I don’t have to worry about commercials and B) the quality of the show is astounding. I’m not sure why anyone would want to watch any shows on television live anymore. (Unless it’s Clone Wars.)

And the last thing we have on the list is perhaps the gift I would like most for Christmas that I know I’m not getting. In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Akira Kurosawa’s birth, the Criterion Collection has put together AK 100: 25 Films of Akira Kurosawa. This is a box set of 25 of Kurosawa’s films, including some never-before-released on DVD in the United States. The price right now is about $290 on amazon, and when you take into account the fact that Criterion discs are usually $40 and you’re getting every film in this set for just over $10, you realize how much of a steal this set is.

That’s pretty much it for releases this week. I would mention that Public Enemies came out, but I thought that movie was terrible.

So, until next week…
